about the book

From Agrimony to Yarrow — over seventy herbs, some of them rarely grown or used in the kitchen anymore, are profiled in this fascinating and classic book by Eleanour Sinclair Rohde.

Included are examples of knot garden designs, along with recipes for soups and salads, drinks and desserts, perfumed waters, powders and pomanders all gleaned from old herbals, cookery and stillroom books.

More than a guide to reviving the historic herb garden, A Garden of Herbs serves as a reminder of the long history and essentialness of our connection to plants—and an inspiration to find new ways to incorporate their beautiful and nourishing influences into everyday existence

This new edition of A Garden of Herbs is an unabridged republication of the edition published by Philip Lee Warner in 1921. It is not a facsimile of the earlier edition. Illustrations have been added to chapter headings, formatting and punctuation have been adjusted, and some spelling changes and other copy edits have been made. The index has also been edited. We hope these mild changes add to herb and garden lovers’ enjoyment of this classic book.
